Emma Cano is an associate in the Business Litigation Practice Group of Haynes and Boone, LLP.  Her practice focuses on assisting clients in general civil matters involving business and commercial litigation in a number of areas, including partnership disputes, franchise litigation, contract and construction disputes, bond claims, insurance coverage disputes and other litigation matters.  Ms. Cano's experience also includes representing businesses in a wide range of general tort matters, including industrial fatalities, premises liability matters and the defense of employee personal injury claims against both "subscriber" and "non-subscriber" employers.

Ms. Cano frequently represents companies involved in OSHA investigations, often resulting from industrial accidents and employee fatalities, and counsels clients on dealing with and responding to OSHA's involvement in their business operations.

Liberty Tax Prevails in Enforcing Forum Selection Clause
Prevailed in enforcement of forum selection clause and obtained transfer of civil action. Youngblood v. JTH Tax Servs., Inc., No. SA: 06-CA-380-XR; 2006 WL 1984656 (W.D. Tex. July 17, 2006).

Drilling Rig Incident
Represented drilling company in OSHA proceedings resulting from an accident involving an employee killed while working on a drilling rig. No lawsuit was filed against the company.

Drilling Rig Collapse
Represented drilling company in OSHA proceedings resulting from an accident involving an employee killed during a drilling rig collapse. Also represented the company in the gross negligence lawsuit filed in Webb County, Texas, as a result of the accident. (The lawsuit is still pending and is in the early stages.)

Drilling Rig Incident
Represented drilling company in OSHA proceedings resulting from an accident involving an employee killed while working on a drilling rig. Also represented the company in the gross negligence lawsuit filed in Webb County, Texas, resulting from the accident. The lawsuit was eventually resolved at mediation.

Oilfield Explosion
Represented natural gas pipeline company in OSHA proceedings resulting from an oilfield explosion/flash fire that left one worker dead, and five injured. Also represented the company in gross negligence lawsuit filed in Zavala County, Texas, resulting from the accident. (The lawsuit is still pending and involves at least six different sets of plaintiffs and five different defendants.)
